Driftwood Art

While living in Costa Rica I enjoyed scouring the beaches for driftwood to paint. It was hard to find nice flat pieces big enough to work as a natural canvas. My most precious find was the corner of an old fiberglass sailboat that had been destroyed in a storm and washed up on shore. I painted  this one with plumeria flowers and finished it with a Costa Rica label. Most of them were painted to be sold as souvenirs, and said Costa Rica, Playas del Coco or “Pura Vida,” a popular phrase down there which just means, the pure life, reminding people to stop and smell the roses, to take pleasure in the simple things, and most of all relax and enjoy!
